Montchavin Bars (1250m)

In Montchavin, visitors can choose from two main bars:

Camp de Base Café: Nestled in a tranquil corner atop Montchavin village, this brewery bar offers local beers and a range of snacks and tapas. With a quaint terrace perfect for sunlit days, this locale is ideal for après-ski festivities, televised sports events, and game nights.
Le Dos Rond: This bar is renowned for its expansive choice of beer, wine, and gin (it also serves food). Happy hour stretches from 17:00 to 19:00 and is accompanied by live music and televised sporting events.

Les Coches Bars (1450m)

In Les Coches, two bars stand out:

White Lines Bar: Positioned at the village entrance, White Lines is a versatile lounge, pub, and club. Live sports events like Premier League and Champions League football, along with Six Nations rugby, are broadcasted. Herve, the passionate sports enthusiast owner, ensures lively atmospheres, especially on nights with live bands, DJs, and even karaoke. The bar celebrates international days with theme nights and offers games such as darts, table football, and billiards. Open until 2 am.
La Table du Tarin: Beyond being an après-ski bar, it's a restaurant offering live music sessions on Wednesdays from 5:30 pm. Conveniently, there's a free bus shuttling between the two villages until around 10 pm. A popular activity among guests is to take this bus up and later sledge down the hill post festivities.

After enjoying the last chairlift to Le Bonnet in La Plagne Bellecote, with its resident DJ, skiers can halt at Pierre Blanche or Le Poste on their descent. The latter usually features a DJ. Before skiing back to Montchavin, it's customary to visit White Lines in Les Coches village, especially during the happy hour at the ski day's conclusion. On specific days, live bands perform in both village bars. Do inquire about the music genre, timings, and venue.

La Folie Douce: An iconic bar, La Folie Douce has four restaurants, daily afternoon shows, and vibrant club nights. Every day, from 14:00 to 15:00, live artistic performances take centre stage. Situated in Les Arcs 1800 atop the Villards gondola, this spot in Paradiski is a must-visit. However, if you're skiing, ensure you give yourself enough time to return to Montchavin - Les Coches. To stay for club nights, the most economical return route involves a free shuttle bus to Bourg-Saint-Maurice, followed by a taxi. It's worth noting that taxis often decline heavily inebriated groups. La Folie Douce is also accessible by the free Villard gondola or skiing.

Montchavin Restaurants (Altitude 1250m)

Montchavin village has five distinct restaurants, each offering unique culinary experiences:

Cocotte and Co: This petite, traditional French establishment prides itself on crafting homemade dishes from premium ingredients. The restaurant is open for lunch and has two evening sessions.
Le Bovate: Established in 1975, Le Bovate is a family-run restaurant residing at the heart of Montchavin's old village, right at the foot of the slopes. It guarantees fresh, locally-sourced, homemade dishes. Guests can explore a diverse selection of world teas, a curated wine list, and an extensive cocktail menu. For those looking to enjoy their meal outdoors, a south-facing terrace offers sunny lunch spots or a calm drink area furnished with plush armchairs.
Le Dos Rond, Burgers and Beer: Situated along Montchavin's primary pedestrian street, this place is housed in one of the village's oldest chalets and stands out for its delectable burgers and refreshing beers. The menu offers creative salads, traditional charcuterie, and quintessential French dishes. Additionally, they provide vegetarian and vegan menus upon prior booking. For the little ones, options like fish and chips, burgers, and chicken nuggets with house-made fries are available. Evening meals include Savoie favourites like fondue, raclette, and reblochonnade. Special evenings might see visits from entertainers such as Francis le Magicien.
La Fleur de Neige: Epitomising a blend of traditional and contemporary design, Fleur de Neige stands as an idyllic spot for families or groups. It welcomes guests at lunch, offering a serene nook by the fireplace where one can relish homemade aperitifs and pastries. The evening menu comprises both Savoyard specialities and global cuisines.

Ski La Source, is located in Montchavin - Les Coches, two charming and historic villages that form part of the expansive ski area known as La Plagne. If you didn't know, La Plagne falls within Paradiski, an enormous ski domain that encompasses La Plagne, Les Arcs, and Peisey-Vallandry. This domain is nestled in the Tarentaise Valley, situated in the Savoie Department of France, and is a part of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, often simply referred to as Rhône-Alpes.

Towns Near Montchavin - Les Coches

Aime (Aime-la-Plagne): Aime is a commune situated at the base of the mountain, with an altitude of 700 metres. Aime houses a train station, marking one of the final stops in the Tarentaise Valley, with the following stops being Landry and Bourg Saint Maurice. Once you arrive in Aime, you'll need a private transfer or a shuttle bus to reach the upper resorts. This small village boasts several bars, restaurants, and shops, all within a 15-minute stroll from the train station. However, trekking with ski equipment might not be ideal. Main attractions along the primary road include a Casino supermarket, a boulangerie, a Tabac, and the historic Montmayeur castle. Just across the N90 main road, there's a complex featuring a supermarket named E.Leclerc, the budget-friendly sports store Decathlon, and other amenities. A journey from Montchavin to Aime takes roughly 20 minutes by car.

Bourg Saint Maurice: Bourg-Saint-Maurice stands as the terminal train station in the Tarentaise valley. It's got a denser concentration of bars and restaurants than Aime and is positioned conveniently around the bus and train stations. Supermarkets can be found further away, at the end of Avenue du Stade, making it a bit of a trek from the primary public transport hubs. It would approximately take a 25-minute drive from Montchavin to Bourg-Saint-Maurice, but allocating some extra time during the winter months is wise. Les Arcs 1600 is directly linked to Bourg via a funicular. Bourg-Saint-Maurice possesses a quaint historical centre, and has a reputation for producing Beaufort cheese. Located just 10 km from the Italian border, during the summer months, you can drive over the mountain pass and take a day trip to Italy.

Both Montchavin village, situated at 1250 metres, and Les Coches, perched at 1450 metres, are equipped with essential amenities including a bakery, Spar shop, newsagent, Tabac (primarily a tobacco shop), of course loads of souvenir shops, and a range of professional ski-hire establishments.

Each village takes pride in its local delicatessen, offering locally produced cheeses. For those keen to try traditional Savoie dishes, both delicatessens and the local butcher in Les Coches provide ingredients and equipment to rent. Whip up a delightful fondu, pierrade (an electrically heated stone for cooking individual meat pieces right at the dinner table), or a raclette night with your friends and family. To complete the authentic French experience, don't forget accompaniments like mustard, salad, potatoes, and gherkins.
